Daliy Vitamin at PodCamp Barcelona!

Matthew Ray arrived in Barcelona 15 years ago and since then he has been “obsessed” with the English problem in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. His dream is for everyone in the Spanish state who needs English to be able to reach their desired level, and therefore avoiding the further loss of personal and professional opportunities.

He’ll explain what the Daily Vitamin by Ziggurat English Services is and how he has used it to create a “pre-web 2.0” community with people interested in improving their English; he’ll demonstrate why this type of project and other web resources are key if Catalonia (and Spain) want to overcome their “genetic defect” with English.

Finally, he will offer a few suggestions about how companies and public administration can make their language-training budgets more efficient and effective.

Sensory tasting!

Cava Berdié will bring the "Sensory visit" we do at the winery to PodCamp Barcelona, transforming it in the "Sensory Tasting", where we will taste three very different Berdié cava, smell surprising fragrances and taste three extremely original "pinchos".

The tasting will take place on Saturday, September 18th, at 6.15 PM at Els Vienesos. Just one important issue: we need to know how many people we'll be. If you want to taste our cava, please leave a comment, send a message through the contact page or send us a tweet with the hashtag #pbcn10

Cheers!

Drumbeat Festival at PodCamp Barcelona

Alina Mierluș and Enric Senabre Hidalgo , members of the local committee for the first Drumbeat Festival, to be celebrated in Barcelona from November 3rd to 5th, will explain the origins and philosophy that lies behind this new initiative driven by the Mozilla Foundation.

The Drumbeat platform is born as a new online projects community, with the aim of publicizing and support initiatives that protect and improve the Internet as a public and open, participative and decentralized resource.

Based on this initiative, the First Drumbeat Festival is posed as an international, participative meeting that will reunite in Barcelona diverse and pioneering technology initiatives, open and innovative, on education and learning, based on the message "Learning, Freedom and the Web".

New roads for publishing at PodCamp Barcelona

New roads for publishing aims to find a dialogue space to discuss a question that is driving everyone crazy in the industry:

What the hell is going on?

The publishing market is in a considerable mess, and has been for quite a while. As an example we can see what happened when Amazon recently published certain data (in a press release). From one data item (the already famous 143 sold e-books for every 100 hardcovers), it reached the point where it was claimed that there were more e-books sold than paper books (such as in the article on B&N in el País ).

We are undoubtedly in a time of change, and book publishing, and even more critically magazines and newspapers publishing, must adapt.

That is what we will talk about: what can we do with the coming storm. We'll talk about the options offered by new tech, and if at all possible we'd love to avoid talking about the sad loss of the smell of a new book or of the happy and full live of the tree that will be saved from death to publish the latest best-seller.

That's not the idea. What we want is to see the new opportunities awaiting us there, for readers, publishers, authors and all those interested in the universe of writing, to create and read better works, far more rich and interactive than what we were used to.

Without pretending to set limit to the conversation (from 6 to 8pm, although if we are in the mood it can be extended… forever), we'd like to pose some items that are possibly interesting (if they aren't, there you have the comments, and this post can be edited):

  • Literary creation and new technologies (just an example: Electronic literature collection v1)

  • Epub, Mobi, Kindle, iPad… whatever is going on with the formats? (also, why it seems to be so difficult to use several formats for the same work, as the Pigs, Gourds and Wikis post can demonstrate)

  • Community literature, with an without a main author (such as http://www.elbazardeloslocos.org/, a fairly recent initiative to publish a book written through Twitter w/ #bazarlocos)

  • The paper is not dying or what's with all the fuss: POD and new value paths without print runs and permanent availability.

  • Oh, I just inserted a video in the book. Is it still a book? Who cares?

@pdavenne awaits you at El Masnou on September 15th, at 6PM, to talk until 8PM, and further if it feels like it… ¡Cheers!

PodCamp Barcelona Social Media Surgery!

One of the workshops at PodCamp Barcelona will be a social media surgery.

What is a social media surgery?

A social media surgery is a pretty informal gathering of people who want to learn how to use the web to communicate, campaign or collaborate. They are deliberately relaxed. You will get to sit alongside someone who understands good ways to use the internet and they'll show you useful free tools. If you like what you see they can also help you set up your blog, or facebook page or twitter account.

The social media surgery began in Birmingham, UK and is now spreading around the world.

How to participate?

There are two ways to participate in a surgery: as a surgeon/helper or as a learner

A surgeon/helper is someone who knows enough about using social media tools to help someone else. Some surgeons have spent years understanding the internet, others started learning a few months ago but want to share what they know with other community groups and active citizens. If you wish to participate as a surgeon please contact us

A learner is someone with questions which require practical answers.

When?

The social media surgery will take place from 18:00-20:00 on Thursday, September 16th

Where?

Els Vienesos, calle de la Segarra, 12, El Masnou

¡Didaktikeitor @ainhoaeus vs. Kultureitor @eraser at PodCamp Barcelona!

@ainhoaeus & @eraser will speak at PodCamp Barcelona about:

Project #twple – Didaktikeitor @ainhoaeus vs. Kultureitor @eraser : 2nd round at PodCamp Barcelona

Now that ICTs are impregnating the world of education and e-learning is on the lips of companies and marketing people, it seems to be a good moment to reflect about emerging concepts such as Edupunk, DIY (do-it-yourself), PLE (personal learning environment) and similar concepts which talk about a change of paradigms, as an inflection proposal of the learning engineering that dominates in the world of e-learning. Chaos versus order? Only apparently.

This dialogued reflection, represented as a confrontation between Didaktikeitor @ainhoaeu (http://ainhoaezeiza.net/) from the university of the Basque Country and @eraser (http://e-learning-teleformacion.blogspot.com/) from the University of Seville is in itself an example of dialogical learning, a transient learning via Twitter with the help of blogs. At the same time, it demonstrates new ways of creating learning communities through the use of tags (such as that used in the project: #TWPLE) – ephemeral communities associated with a specific project that dissolve continuously to form new communities.

This idea of network communities combining the local and face-to-face with the distant in the way of borderline and discordant unstable relations will help social innovation, overcoming the inbreeding and immobility of established communities.

At PodCamp Barcelona 2010 we will continue this process of collective reflection through questions and ideas synthesised in tweets. The #TWPLE hashtag will be reactivated!
